em-tec GmbH can look back on 30 innovative and productive years, which have been full of passion for and commitment to producing flow measuring equipment.
To celebrate this special anniversary, employees, along with invited guests from the worlds of politics, business and the media, visited the site in Finning on which the company’s new head office is currently being built.
Around 80 people currently work for em-tec. The new office building, which is expected to open in mid-2020, will have room for up to 150 employees. “We attach great importance to the sustainable development of the companies in our portfolio. We still notice so much untapped potential, especially in the field of medical and measuring technology. By constructing this new head office, we want to further support the development of em-tec,” explains Dr Hanspeter Schubert, manager of Blue Cap AG, which acquired em-tec in 2014 and has subsequently strategically developed it.
In the future, the business will be divided into three sectors - Engineering, Medical and Bioprocessing. “This will allow us to highlight our development expertise in the field of medical technology, as well as our specialisation in unique product systems and flow measuring components, in different areas,” says Traxler about the new focus which has been implemented as another part of the anniversary celebrations.
The ground-breaking ceremony was held on Monday, November 19, 2018, when em-tec’s Managing Directors Dr. Hannspeter Schubert and Markus Traxler, mayor Siegfried Weissenbach and responsible architect Andreas Paluch has given the starting signal for the new headquarter in Finning.
If everything goes as expected, the new company building will be ready for occupation in spring 2020. The completion of the shell construction is - weather permitting – planned for June 2019. The subsequent interior work is scheduled for the beginning of March 2020. Upon completion, the new company building will have a potential for up to 150 employees.
Architect Andreas Paluch from Munich designed a modern two-storey building, which meets the highest technical standards, offers sufficient space for the increasing number of employees and will have attractive outdoor facilities. On a total of 4,950 square meters, new premises and offices are going to be built for the Production, Development and Administration departments.
Since the late 1980s, there have been more than 20 indirect methods for measuring process flows for the bio-pharmaceutical industry. Few of these methods are well suited to single use systems. Non invasive transit-time ultrasonic flow measurement with Clamp-On technology can the achieve overall performance accuracy and repeatability required for typical process control applications. AlphaBio Inc. has evaluated three different single use system set-ups (TFF System, Isocratic Chromatography System and Gradient Chromatography System) with the em-tec BioProTT™ flow measurement system. Flow rates ranging from 2 to 16 LPM were measured and evaluated against an NIST calibrated Coriolis meter (Endress + Hauser.) The results of this study indicate that that with proper material calibration and unit setup, flow rate measurement accuracies of less than +/- 2% of reading can be achieved.

German-based em-tec GmbH has been developing and manufacturing products at its location in Finning for the medical industry for nearly thirty years. As part of this cooperation, the technology base of em-tec will be extended by jointly developed single-use components, such as FlowTube. Sartorius will exclusively market these as applications and distribute them worldwide as private label products under the brand name of BioPAT®Flow.
Our quality management system (certified to ISO 13485) provides for a correct, complete documentation of the project and ensures that all the strict guidelines that apply to medical device manufacturers are observed throughout the development process.
